Wiki Wiki

This is a video I found of an english teacher that uses a wiki for one of her classes. It shows how the student feel about using the wiki and why it was affective for this class.

  1. Hi Jess.

That was a great glimpse into a classroom that uses the latest technology for learning. It was nice to see this "in action." Another thing that I found interesting besides the actual video was the social bookmarking tool that they used during the class. The students were using the site www.diigo.com do annotate on the poem, Pumpernickle, that was posted on their wiki.

This site allows a person to "annotate" text. After downloading this browser I went in to check out all of the fun stuff I could do with it and the groups available. I joined a group that is based on using technology in writing for educational purposes.

So, I tried out the browser on a great article about a teacher's experience in bringing a digital story to her classroom. She went to a summer seminar and was taught how to do this and brought it back to her students in the fall. The author/teacher,Leslie Moitoza, titled her paper Rethinking Composition In A Multimodal World. The information was fabulous but more importantly, I was able to use the features from diigo easily. I could highlight and use sticky notes as I was going through the document. Since I am going to use some of it for our class wiki, I bookmarked the site to revisit it later. It was not necessary to print the article, get out my highlighter or reach for my post-its, I could do it all electronically.

Thanks for posting the video Jenn because as you can see, one good thing on the internet can always open up another door for learning. Your video led me to site that I know I will use for my studies and hopefully find a way to bring it to my own classroom.
